Description

Ex-race car imported from Texas in 2016; rebuilt 302ci small block with 347 stroker kit reputedly producing over 400bhp; new 5-speed manualgearbox; NASCAR roll cage; road legal; very loud, very fast!

First registered in America in January 1966, this Mustang GT Notchback was imported to the UK by the previous owner in July 2016. The current owner acquired the car in November 2017 to join his collection of interesting cars.

Formerly used as a racing car in America, it comes with a large file of invoices which show that much money has been spent on the car since it arrived on these shores. It is road legal and comes with 4 old MOTs which show that it has covered some 1,800 miles since 2016, the odometer currently showing 38,544 miles. Although it no longer needs one, the current MOT is valid until May 2025 with just two minor advisories for play in the n/s/f and o/s/f wheel bearings.

Since arriving with us the car has been starting promptly and running well with good 50psi oil pressure. It accelerates strongly and has a very rousing exhaust note!

While the spec of the car is covered in some detail in copious invoices, notes and photos on file, the owner has summarised it for us as follows:

“This Mustang GT was an oval race track car in Texas. It has a NASCAR roll cage welded in front to rear and welding is to a high standard. The engine is a 302 small block with a 347 Stroker kit fitted which raises the capacity to 5.7-litres and is rated at 430bhp. A dyno test from January 2019 showed 306bhp at the rear wheels and 351 lb/ft of torque but this was prior to recent improvements associated with heads and carb so now believed 400bhp+.

All new engine internals, new stroker kit, bearings, crank, rods, pistons, rings. Recent heads refurb with race cam, chain and sprocket. Pistons are upgraded domed/shaped, and the rockers are upgraded roller racing versions. Cylinders compression tested and all in the range 175-200psi (stock compression is circa 130-150 psi). All plugs replaced for new, Bosch FR7 DCX. Inlets have been ported (lightly). Flame Thrower electronic ignition fitted. New 16v alternator. Carb and timing tuned to give 20+ psi vacuum on idle and idle speed reduced to minimum. I suspect there are more bhp to get out of this beast if tuned on a rolling road.

Gearbox is a new T5, 5-speed manual with new billet flywheel and new Stage 2 clutch kit. New clutch cable conversion kit. New billet propshaft with new UJ's. New billet bell housing. Rear axle all good having been upgraded to new 5 leaf springs and recharged gas dampers (dampers can be recharged from the boot).

Heavy duty battery fitted in the boot with battery cut-off switch. All running gear has been overhauled. Front and rear 11” brake disc conversion. New shocks all round with bushings and pins. Exhaust is Headman shorty headers 4-1 with new stainless-steel system.

Bodywork is exceptionally solid with new bonnet, boot lid, doors. Paintwork is plasti-dipped and will peel off when the car is ready to be painted. It is in etch primmer under the plasti-dip covering, just peel off and paint. Wheels and tyres are virtually new, metal rims and tyres are with racing studs. New carpets and headlining and door cards. Dash in good condition, all gauges working.

Work completed recently includes:

Rear brake pads relined, and handbrake sorted.

Windscreen wipers refitted and now working.
